The Piano Studio of Old Town Alexandria: Giving your children a love for the piano

Piano lessons. The childhood recollections of piano lessons can bring up two kinds of memories for most adults. The happy thoughts of when you learned to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, practicing for the spring piano recital, and the proud smiles from your parents when you finally mastered a piece by Mozart. However, there are unhappy memories from those that experienced the “mean” piano teacher from down the street. Remember promising your parents that you would eat your vegetables everyday for the rest of your life if you didn’t have to take anymore lessons from the torture queen? Have your children experience happy moments of music that will be remembered for a lifetime at The Piano Studio of Old Town Alexandria.
The Piano Studio of Old Town Alexandria is owned by local mother, Julie Zupan. Julie is a graduate of the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and has taught piano lessons for 29 years. She comes from a pedigree of piano teaching–her mother was a nationally renowned piano teacher for 52 years. Julie is trained in the art of Piano Pedagogy–the study of teaching how to play the piano. Having an instructor who is trained in Piano Pedagogy is very important when choosing a piano teacher, because as Julie states, “just because you can play, doesn’t mean you know how to teach the piano.”
Julie’s style of teaching piano is very refreshing to parents, because of her fun and relaxed approach. As part of the fun atmosphere, a musical point system for students is available so when they reach 150 points they can get a prize. She truly believes that in order for a child to succeed and want to continue playing, they need to feel comfortable with their instructor. Her one-on-one individualized attention to each student has allowed them to flourish under her instruction.
The Piano Studio of Old Town Alexandria offers a mixture of traditional and modern lessons. Traditional lessons include, but are not limited to, learning how to read music, music theory, and repertoire. Students will learn how to play modern music that they choose. Have a boy that loves Star Wars? They can learn how to play the Star Wars theme song. Have a teen that knows every song on the radio? They can learn any of the Top 40 hits by their favorite artist.
Grammy-Award winning artist, Alicia Keys said, “When I first fell in love with the piano, I knew it was me. I was dying to play.” Let The Piano Studio of Old Town Alexandria bring the love of the piano to your home.
